Restore Your Gelcoat’s Gloss & Clarity
Over time, your boat’s gelcoat can become oxidized, dull, or etched with mineral-rich water spots that regular polishing can’t fix. That’s where wet sanding comes in — a specialized detailing technique that removes surface imperfections and restores a glassy, like-new finish.
What Is Wet Sanding?
Wet sanding is the process of using ultra-fine sandpaper with water to level out and remove:
- Deep oxidation
- Heavy water spots
- Scratches or scuffs in the gelcoat
- Staining or faded areas
It’s a precise process that should only be performed by trained professionals to avoid damage to the gelcoat or clearcoat.
Water Spot Removal Process
Water spots — especially from hard or brackish water — can etch into the surface and become permanent if left untreated. Our process includes:
- Assessment – We determine if the water spots are surface-level (removable with polish) or have etched into the gelcoat.
- Wet Sanding (if necessary) – We use a progression of sandpaper grits (typically 1500 to 3000) to gently remove the damaged layer.
- Compounding & Polishing – After sanding, we use a high-quality compound to refine the surface, followed by polishing for a mirror-like shine.
- Protection – We finish with a marine-grade wax or sealant to protect your finish from UV damage and future water spotting.
Why Choose Wet Sanding?
